How to make a faerie

Pictures or video to follow

Supplies:
Straight medium heavy floral wire
Floral tape
Something for pants or a skirt:
Can be tissue, flowers, pipe cleaners, leaves, paper, anything you can dream up will work.
(Optional beads, pearls, etc)

Tools:
Wire cutters
Round pliers
Scissors
Hot glue?

1. Cut the wire in half. Set half aside and cut halved wire almost in half. I like to have a slightly longer end for the legs, so I no longer cut them exactly in half.

2. Place a bead on the shorter of the two wires and bend in half. Then twist once. This is tricky, be patient.this is where it will be very frustrating...put the other "half" of the wire next to the twist and then continue the twist once more. The head wire will now have a neck, arms, and a straight wire sticking front to back.

3. Bend that straight wire in half, then twist 3-4 times. Make sure that when you finish twisting it the arms and legs are longed up to be on sides of the body.

4. I don't like sharp points pricking me fingers and therefore I like to bend the hands now. Sometimes I bend a mitten shape and other times I just do a loop.

5. Take the floral tape and wrap in in a figure 8 and all around and down the body. The idea is to stabilize the neck. I've seen some Pinterest ideas that do this with tissue to make dancers. I like the floral tape because it matches.

6. If you are using flowers now is the time to press your doll through the middle of the plastic or silk hole. I've done both. I like the way the plastic center stabilizes the skirt therefore it's my preference to use it if I can.

7. Take the round pliers again and bend the feet.

8. Pick out matching leaves and cut a notch in them (maybe even shape them a little), to make wings. Use a thin strip of floral tape to tie them together and then tie them to the doll.

Voila! Simple fairy with "scope for the imagination" just like Anne (with an e, you'll notice) would be happy with.

Side-
Pipe cleaners and ribbon make excellent clothing for make faeries. The ribbon requires hot glue, the pipe cleaner doesn't and is removable.

Bullying

This is close to my heart and lengthy. Everyone has their personal cross they have to bear.

"I feel awful when I am embarrassed of my girl, when I want her to conform to social norms and act like the rest of the kids. That is not who she is, and I doubt she ever will be. In fact, I don't want her to be - that would mean that something broke her, and she gave up her exquisite self to be someone else, to fit in.

I need to put away my own pride and emotions in those situations and make sure that I support her in who she is when her individuality appears. That's difficult some days."- from the article.
Through a Stronger Lens: Fitting In

I used to think this. Then I realized the truth...all children are awkward. They are all trying out boundaries and learning how to deal with people around them.

Frankly, I rarely "fit in" in grade school. I was weird (maybe still am) because I looked adults in the eye and had conversations with them. I loved to sit and listen to old people tell stories. I wanted to follow rules and be good. I refused to follow clothing trends and be mean to unpopular kids. I enjoyed getting answers right in class and I liked to build things. I was and am a total tomboy (which I was told at a young age made the most attractive women  )

I got bullied in elementary school. It was only once; but it was seared into my heart and defined that I needed to be able to stand for right and stand alone. I don't even remember who the three girls were. I later found out that they were jealous that a boy I liked liked me (which I found out after I was married- go figure) and I assume the were upset that I got the lead in the after school program play. They cornered me on stage right, turned me into a curtain until I was wrapped up, then tapped my feet with a bat.

I don't remember how I got out, how they reacted, or how I got home. I remember sobbing in the back of my excessively long closet when I got home. Later I remembered wanting to die, to drown while I was taking a bath, to get away at age 11.

I still performed in the school play and did brilliantly, (if I do say so myself) as Alice in Alice's Journey Through Wonderland. I succeeded in school with learning disabilities in the left brain. I studied hard classes at BYU and after 8 years of continued education now practice as a licensed massage therapist for amateur ad professional dancers.

I rose above.

I mentioned this to my mother a bit ago and was surprised that I had never told my parents. Then my mother told me a story her mother never heard. Children hold these things and ponder them; especially when they are ashamed.

I don't want my children to be the child who wrapped a little girl OR the one in the claustrophobic curtain.
I know I can't prevent all bullying, even church classes have that, but I will do my best. I don't want to break my children. I want them to have a sure foundation of strength, compassion and integrity.

I want to build them so that they will build others.

We Moved...to Provo...three months ago. Ooops.

I'm updating, in a few words, so I can go to bed in peace.

We moved to Provo in March and I began studying Massage Therapy at UCMT.

Love it!

The kidlets are happy with the swing set in the back yard and the puppies Fairlight had.  We sold all six and they are going to happy new homes on Monday.

Brian is window washing to pay the bills (I cannot accept "compensation" for massage as a student).  And we make custom built coops for chickens.  We are currently building a coop shaped like someone's home (and we're going to make the same one for us because it looks like a barn and it's cool).

We are still working on Ballroom and performed two original numbers in the Choralairs concert in May.  Wonderful show!

Now that I'm awake I'll tell you the good news...Sunny (our California rabbit) has given birth to a litter of 9 bunnies and they are adorable!
Oh, and we're going to get a new dog to be a companion to Fairlight.  His name is Oreo and he's a 7 lb miniature schnauzer as welll.
